Theatergoers, beware! Goosebumps: Phantom of the Auditorium, The Musical will play a limited public engagement as part of Aurora Theatre’s Learning Library from October 19–October 22. Adapted from the hair-raising children’s book Goosebumps: Phantom of the Auditorium by R.L. Stine, this not-too-spooky adventure follows two aspiring young thespians named Brooke and Zeke as they embark on a likely-haunted middle school play. From the best-selling children’s author R.L. Stine, the Goosebumps book series has risen to great acclaim on nightstands of generations of kids past and present. Aurora Theatre’s Learning Library series is educational outreach that provides school groups the opportunity to experience fully-staged professional productions performed on the Aurora Theatre mainstage on weekday mornings.
“Kids and kids at heart will absolutely love this silly mystery,” says Jaclyn Hofmann, director of Goosebumps: Phantom of the Auditorium, The Musical. “The suspenseful story will keep audiences on their feet, toeing the line between spine-shivering scares and humor, right in time for Halloween. We are proud to bring this worldwide bestselling book series to the stage for a theatrical rendition, Aurora Theatre style!”
The classic story, which achieved a 2003 Guinness Book of World Records nod for bestselling book of all time, is now celebrating its 25th anniversary. The narrative has mesmerized generations with the tale of Brooke and Zeke’s adventure with an old, rumored to be cursed play about a phantom. Strange happenings keep disrupting rehearsals and students can’t figure out whether the interruptions are a coincidence, a not-so-funny joke or if the curse might actually be real. Under the direction of Hofmann and with musical direction by Ann-Carol Pence, Yuka Sekine is set to star as Brooke Rodgers with Branden Cleveland as Zeke Matthews. Perfect for elementary and middle-school aged children, Goosebumps: Phantom of the Auditorium, The Musical is the hidden gem, age-appropriate solution for parents looking for some authentic, festive fun during the spooky season.
Following exclusive school field trip performances from September 28 – October 20, Goosebumps: Phantom of the Auditorium, The Musical will play for the public at Aurora Theatre October 19–October 22, 2017. Tickets are currently on sale; single ticket prices range from $10–$15 and may be purchased online at or by calling the Box Office at 678-226-6222. Red Yarn (aka Andy Furgeson), the acclaimed family folk songster and puppeteer from Portland, releases this bright new collection of classic and original songs allows fans to bring home the magic of a Red Yarn’s energetic live shows, sprinkled with studio magic by renowned family music producer Dean Jones.
Wake Up & Sing is an homage to Furgeson’s favorite old children’s records and songbooks, as well as to the great American folk canon championed by Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and other classic bards. Red Yarn emerges from the Deep Woods – the weird animal world he explored in his first two albums – to sing sunnier songs about waking up, childhood play, animal adventures, and parenting.
In March 2015, Furgeson made a pilgrimage to the Hudson River Valley to see the environments that inspired some of his musical heroes, from Seeger’s Clearwater to The Band’s Big Pink house in Woodstock. Furgeson spent two days at GRAMMY Award winning producer Dean Jones’ No Parking Studio in Rosendale, NY, intending to record a six-song EP. Jones coaxed out 12 songs, as Furgeson dug deep into his notebooks of folksong adaptations and rhymes he’d written for his young son. Over the course of the next year, Furgeson and Jones bounced tracks back and forth, crafting 11 of them into a full-length album. Wake Up & Sing refines the lush and lively folk-rock sound Red Yarn established with Red Yarn’s two earlier Deep Woods albums. Watch for guest appearances by Grammy Award nominated artist Morgan Taylor (Gustafer Yellowgold), Portland kindie mainstay Mo Phillips and cellist Jane Scarpantoni.

Four years in the making, the new Sugar Free Allstars album is their most ambitious to date, with nods to the funk, rock and R&B sounds of the 1970s and ‘80s that greatly influenced them. Elements of Parliament Funkadelic, early ‘80s Prince, old-school rap, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, Dixieland, New Orleans Second Line and even some barbershop quartet can be heard in the tunes that make up their fourth family oriented release. The deliciously eclectic self-titled album is a reintroduction of their family funk super duo style complete with new logo and branding. Special guest artists helping out on the album are Genevieve Goings (Choo Choo Soul) on vocals, Roger Manning Jr (member of Beck’s band since 1995 and founding member of Jellyfish and Moog Cookbook) on keyboards and Fred Tackett (recorded/toured with Bob Dylan and current member of Little Feat) on electric guitar. Recorded at Bell Labs in Norman, engineered by Trent Bell and produced by SFA and Trent Bell. Trust me, get your copy now!! Great music for the family enjoy!!
